Taboo's & Norms

Norms - are the agreed-upon expectations and rules by which a culture guides the behavior of its members in any given situation. Of course, norms vary widely across cultural groups. Americans, for instance, maintain fairly direct eye contact when conversing with others. Asians, on the other hand, may avert their eyes as a sign of politeness and respect.

Example : A Norm in american society, is for teenagers to go to school and graduate college , maybe get a masters or Phd.

Taboo -
A custom prohibiting or restricting a particular practice or forbidding association with a particular person, place, or thing

Example : a taboo is when children have low reading levels , that tells the government that one day these children will be criminals. another taboo is when a student gets to college and flunks out.
